Homework- 15.09.09

The target audience for each magazine?
  • For the magazine on the left it is aimed at men interested in fitness, and I think the age range is around 27-40.
  • For the magazine on the right it is aimed at men, especially those who are American, it seems like it is aimed at middle aged men who are fairly intelligent.

The language & mode of address of each cover?
  • For the Muscle & Fitness magazine, there are words such as 'recharge' and 'lean', which shout out to the audience who want to achieve the best results for their fitness. The writting is mainly in big, bold font to stand out. Some smaller font suggests there are ways to 'stay out of the gym to burn more fat' which creates interest for the men who want the easier option.
  • For the other magazine the font is much smaller, which gives the idea it's readers are those who pick the magazine for imformation. There is the word 'exclusive' which creates excitment. There also is a sentence which says 'a salute to our British allies' implying it is a positive magazine.
The representation of Arnold, why would he want to be represented in this way?
  • In Muscle & Fitness, he is described as 'the man, the movie, + the workout' which are quick phrases creating a sense of power. The only word that describes him is 'the man' which makes him seem like he is famous and full of amazement. By including a reference to his workout creates a sense he is in good form and men want to look like him, which Arnold may enjoy.
  • In the other magazine Arnold is again portrayed as a man full of power, since the magazine's cover contains a picture of him, weist up. He is wearing a suit which makes him look smart and clever, and he is smiling which makes him look welcoming. He looks powerful by his finger pointing towards the camera.
